Monica Turner
Monica Turner, an artist here in Highlands County, is doing the illustrations for my book, I See You There, My Father’s Love. Monica has been creating artwork for many years, specializing in large murals. She has done several murals, including a couple for the town of Lake Placid, Florida, which is famous for its murals. In addition to her outdoor murals, she has done many large interior paintings for churches and private individuals.
Monica began drawing as a small child. At age 12 she became more involved with art and illustrating, and produced her first professional works at age 15. Her first job was painting flower pots for a local florist.
While Monica is a long-time professional artist, she is faily new to the world of book illustration. She illustrated two books while in high school and is currently working on a book that will be used by missionaries to the Nuer people in Africa. Monica is also now doing portraits and landscapes.
Here are a few tidbits about Monica, in her own words:
My goal is to paint Florida Wild game paintings, and
portraits of trophy hunts. This is a dream of mine to establish this
area of my business. Both to be able to work at home, and because the
subjects are a particular passion of mine and my family. I am
interested in illustrating for much the same reason, to be able to
work mainly at home with my four children since I am homeschooling.
Two of my most visible murals have been done for the Lake placid Mural
Society and are located at the Toby the Clown museum, and the Journal
in Lake placid, florida-The town of Murals! My hobby is hog hunting,
which I enjoy with my husband. I find wild hogs to be fascinating
animals, I could look at them for hours! I view my art talent as a
gift from God that I have practiced and developed to the best of my
ability. I have had no formal training and have had alooooottttt of
trial and error and studying art techniques.
